Amma's in Dortmund

The food is just average, idiyappam and mutton was better, we tried kothu rotti with rhind which was not good also Mutton biriyani and beef biriyani that was also just average nothing special, also the Chicken was not fresh.

I've been eating Kotti Rotti with chicken for years and it just remains my favorite, only once when I was there as a new cellar I didn't know, I guess I didn't believe that I could see the heat (regular customer) probably told the cook then " To make "European" hot, of course, I noticed it straight away and asked for a free mango lassi and chips to apologize! I absolutely love this shop try the Mango Lassi - there is no delicious one!

I went to eat here yesterday because a friend recommended the place to me. The food tastes really good, almost as good as my mom's. The variety of dishes surprised me positively. The mangolassie was delicious! The ambience and decoration of the restaurant were quite South Indian / Sri Lankan. There are a lot of locals here, which of course speaks for the fact that the food tastes good here. I liked it. In the future I will go out to eat or order here more often.

Inexpensive, diverse selection of dishes and drinks. I and my sister were actually extremely happy to finally find an inn near us, which we can still afford without restriction at the end of the month. Promter and nice service. I think that the entire restaurant staff did a harmonious job there. The chairs are extremely comfortable and I think the distance between the seats is very decent. There you in no way get the feeling of having dinner like cucumbers in a can - we are completely pleasantly surprised. We'll both be back for sure.

Dosa was nice. Food took a while to arrive.

Taste was good, service was OK. They charged more than what was mentioned in their menu and also later rounded the figure themselves. Although the total additional amount that we paid was not much, but still it is unethical and demotivated us to not visit again.

We were all starved to eat 4th. Since I have a food diary, I hadn't eaten anything up to this point. We ordered Rotti and Kottu Rotti with chicken and beef. Unfortunately I have to say that all 4 people had severe abdominal cramps and diarrhea a few hours after eating. Most likely it will be food poisoning, suspected salmonella. Since we all come from different households, gastrointestinal flu can be ruled out, as the other people (who had not eaten) in the household had no abnormalities. The common denominator was Amma's Food. Usually we are used to a longer waiting time. This time the food was there much quicker than usual, which suggests that the food was simply warmed up and probably nothing was fresh. To pay: * EC card payment does not work (especially at the present time (Corona) this should be made functional again) * There is no receipt * A number is entered at random and billed Since I didn't want to follow up, we just paid and left. Conclusion: the food can be overpriced but please don't spoil or anything like that. I can 100% agree with the previous comments (the bad ones). You should let go of the regulatory office and the tax office on the food and cash register system. Best regards Dark Raijin

Very authentic Srilankan food! One of the best idlis we have ever had! The food was tasty and the service was great! I would highly recommend Amma's food for anyone wanting to try amazing homestyle food!

Something I can really advocate is desserts. Grandpa, grandma and I were there for the second time and tried something new with every visit. The location is easy to reach! The good transport connection makes a visit feasible. I can only recommend this place! Very brisk and nice service. I think that all the local staff did a very good job there.

No card payment possible and you do not receive a receipt because the till is supposed to not issue a receipt. The food is totally bad. The tax office and regulatory office should watch that.

Very very good and authentic food. The kitchen is South Indian and Cylon. The personnel is very friendly and courteous. All requests are met and even the smallest variation requests are noted and implemented. The prices are super cheap. Selection of food and drinks is really large. The authentic arrangement of the dishes and the serving of drinks from bottles and cans immediately reminds of stays in India and Sri Lanka.

This restaurant is perfect for a small budget. Inexpensive and fast service. Food tastes good, but could be served more lovingly. Minus points that the tables were cleaned with a bad smelling cloth! Should be exchanged or washed !!! Rolls and Wade tasted like they had just been warmed up yesterday. : CONCLUSION: Well suited for the quick hunger but less for a special family meal.

The food here tasted very good. In terms of price, both food and drinks were super fair! Incl. We had drinks, starter and dessert at around 15 euros pp. Warning, do not be alarmed: no alcohol is served! I don't think a reservation is absolutely necessary.

The inn is actually very nicely decorated. No cheap decoration, instead it was much color harmoniously on each other angepasst.Ich can only recommend the place! Sure, I'm on my part here with my friends and can always count on it immaculately serviced at the local werden.In it has so far never happened to us that a court has come to the table cold. The selection of drinks leaves nothing to be desired.

This is a Srilankan restaurant but also serves South Indian food which is really good as there are very few or no restaurant in my knowledge which serves Kerala recipes in NRW state but this one does. They have uzhunnu vada, samosa, different options of idili , idiyappam, Puttu, chapathi, parotta, Kothu parotta with chicken, beef, lamb, fish curries etc.. in their menu. When it comes to food quality and service, this place is pretty average. We just tried parotta - beef curry, masala dosa and vada. Vada was crispy and nice, masala dosa was average but beef curry was disappointing. The beef pieces were kinda hard. I’m terms of pricing, it’s cheap compared to other Indian restaurant. Next time, I’m gonna try something new and update the review.

Food is okay.. could be better if cooked fresh.. to suggest someone food and quality should be maintained. Don't opt for biryani.. cause it's not biryani it's pulao. Appam was good!! Masala dosa was good! Chicken as not fresh, cause you'll get to know the first piece you eat. Vada and coconut chutney was good.. Mango lassi was really! good!!

Nice subcontinental ambience. The food was good too and presentation was really super. The only downfall is that only 1 waiter emwas serving and he was also controlling the cash counter. Due to this, the serving time was a bit slacking (like I had to wait 30ish minutes to get served) but the food's taste compensated for that. They also have sweet paan. Overall good experience, will visit again.

The food was not the only thing that makes big eyes in this restaurant! I really like to try new places and I'm always on the lookout for new places, but I'll stay loyal to this place. The waiters are always very charming and very accommodating. That makes us happy every time we visit. The chairs are extremely comfortable and the distance between the tables is very decent. There you do not get the feeling back and forth how to eat sardines in the can evening. This restaurant has real potential to become my next favorite place.

Restaurant is understaffed and takes long time to serve you. Food is ok and I felt it wasn’t anything extra ordinary. They have friendly staff / owner who accommodated us with kids in the small restaurant though it was a rush hour. It’s small and can easily get over crowded.

Food was neither authentic nor good. We had to wait 1 hour to get our dosa. Samosa was like you get here in supermarket. Worst thing was that the guy charged a higher amount than written on the menu card saying it’s old card and price is not updated. This was insane and cheating to customers that in country like Germany!!!!!!!

Tasty and nominally priced South Indian food. Idly, vada, dosa, biryani, idiyappam and parota are available. Not very busy given that there are a few more indian srilankan restaurants in the vicinity. No card payments hence please carry cash. Two stops away from Dortmund HBF by U- bahn. They also sell Indian snacks like mixtures, laddos and halwa.
